3 Soups to Try from Playful Kiss

I get inspired to try or create things while watching television. The Korean drama Playful Kiss is no different. While this drama mentions and talks about food often, I can only cook and try so much. I decided to focus on food genres. I left out some of the recipes (I might write a separate blog post for that).

In this drama, soups were mention often enough that I thought I should try them. Three of them drew my curiosity and my drive to attempt to cook.

Ginseng Chicken Soup (Samgyetang)

In Playful Kiss during the first episode Joongu makes Oh Hani some delicious ginseng chicken soup. While we don’t get to see the yummy food, just hearing about it awakens my curiosity. So it’s something worth trying. I found a recipe on pinterest that looks good. A lot of the ingredients are things I’m not to sure I can find. It includes ginseng, and jujubes…

Bean Sprout Soup (Kongnamul Gook)

In episode 3 of Playful Kiss, Geumhui (Seungjo’s mom) wakes Oh Hani up and tells her that she made bean sprout soup. While they don’t actually show the soup, they show her eating rice with it. I found this recipe on pinterest. I discovered that it is a simple and easy soup to make. I have all the ingredients already except the bean sprouts and the Kochukaru. This soup seems like a perfect low budget soup when you’re not sure what to eat, but want to try something different.

Kalgusku

This recipe is called the Korean chicken noodle soup. It is made with homemade noodles (which I’ve wanted to make for a while). This soup was also mentioned, but wasn’t shown. I found a recipe on pinterest. I’m excited to try to make it.

While I haven’t yet made the soups, I will update the post when I complete it. I may even write a separate post if need be.

My favorite thing about these 3 soups is that it allows me to expand my knowledge of Korean dishes besides the basic bulgogi and kimchi. I love discover new foods (within my eating habits) that are also healthy. Korean food is simply amazing.
