Drama Travel Spots: Good Morning Call

When I first decided to write about Good Morning Call, I wrote an article about cultural things that are mention in the drama. I ended up adding a few travel locations in the article. After writing about Playful Kiss, I decided that I need to add a separate post about Good Morning Call travel spots.

Villa Fresca Apartments

It is definitely odd that the first location I will add is the apartments that the two leads lived in, but after seeing the same apartment building in a different drama, I figure it is worth mentioning as a spot to travel to. I looked the apartments when I first wrote about it and I could have sworn it was an AirBnB…that would be enjoyable to rent out the same or similar apartments as the characters in the series.

Red Bridge in Meguro District

You know what red bridge I’m referring to. The one you always see them walking across in the drama. I remember when Uehara was upset with Nao and sent her out, they were talking about the Meguro district and it turns out that the bridge is actually located in the Meguro district (the apartment is located in Shibuya). This bridge must have been added to be more asthetically pleasing to viewer. The show still doesn’t do justice to it. I found pictures online that shows its beauty with the cherry blossoms.

Tokyo Tower

Built in 1958 and standing 1,092 feet, this tower has become a national monument for Japan. This is probably a travel spot that will be mention in all the Japanese dramas I will write about. The tower’s main purpose is for communication and observation, but in the drama it was the meeting location for Nao and Daichi on their unofficial date.

At the bottom of the tower is FootTown, a building located beneath the tower where you can find restaurants, stores, and museums. After doing research at the official website, there is a One Piece theme park located in the building. One Piece must be really popular.

Epson Aqua Park Shinagawa

Daichi invited Nao to the aquarium to see the fishes. While Nao saw this action as a friend invite, Daichi was hoping to take their relationship further. The aquarium is absolutely gorgeous. Both in the show and in the pictures online it looks vibrant. It is a two-story building with a variety of exhibit, ranging from jellyfish to otters. It’s definitely a location worth visiting.

Fuji Q Highland

So a girl shows up to the ramen shop everyday. She has a crush on Issei. He’s not interested, so he lies and says Nao is his girlfriend. Nao acquiesces despite her better judgement. She wants to help him out. The strange girl (I can’t remember her name) doesn’t believe they’re together, so she wants to follow them while they’re on their date. It’s very creepy if you ask me. So the trio go to Fuji Q Highland. But they didn’t know that Nao’s friends and Uehara were following closely behind. All the rides that they rode in the drama you can find on the website, even the scary haunted house which claims to be one of the longest and scariest haunted houses in the world. You know, I really would love to visit these places, but that haunted house is just going to be a “no” from me.

Ikaho Hot Springs

I wrote about this place in my Learning about Culture post, but I decided to move it over here.

Nao’s boss gives her ticket to Ikaho Hot springs located in halfway up Mount Harunasan. There are 365 step in the center of the onsen resort surrounded by shops, inns, and restaurants. Ikaho is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan.

To see what you can do when you visit, go here and to see photos, visit this blog.

Some of these places are definitely going to be travel spots whenever I get the opportunity to travel abroad. Which place would you visit?
