It’s always a mix up when I write about travel locations for drama. I’m never sure if I can find the locations. For Boys Over Flowers, the drama travel spots are really quite straight forward and I appreciate them for that.
New Caledonia
New Caledonia is the place were the F4 trick Jan Di and Ga Eul into visiting. The island is gorgeous! Or actually the islands are. If you asked me, I would have said this was a fictional place. The name sound like it could be and the fact that Jun Pyo owns one of the island made me believe so. Despite that belief, I search the name, only to discover the validity of its existence.
New Caledonia is a French territory located in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. There are approximately 300,000 people located on the islands. The majority (39%) are the Kanak people who are the islands’ original inhabitants. The islands is advertise as purely 100% nature meaning if you are planning a trip, you will be spending time in nature. I looked at the official website and they offer a lot of fun and interesting things to do if you plan a trip there. They have fishing, diving, sailing, beaches, water sports, zip-lining, and canyoning (which is a combination of walking, climbing, swimming, and repelling). The island has the world’s largest lagoon and is a world heritage site. Beside the lagoon and beaches, there are also forest, caves, and cliffs to explore. Check out the website here.

Macau
In episode 12 of Boys Over Flowers Jan Di decides to visit Jun Pyo after he leaves her to go work for the company in Macau.
Macau is a resort city, known for its casino and luxury hotels. It is located in Southern China. It is also one of the richest regions in the world. Macau was one of the last territories own by Portugal. Portugal returned it to China in 1999. Macau has a lot of things to do and see. For it being known for it’s casino, there are some family friendly things available to do as well. See more at the official website.
There are a couple other places in Macau that was visited in BOF.
The Venetian
In episode 14, Jan Di and the F3 (the boys minus Jun Pyo) went for a gondola ride in a hotel. It turns out that this hotel is the Venetian. I honestly thought (for some odd reason) that there was only one Venetian and it was in Las Vegas. It makes sense that there’s another one in this place known for its casinos and luxury hotels.
The Venetian Macau is the 7th largest building in the world by floor area! It’s huge! It is also the largest casino in the world! It’s huge!

The Ruins of Sao Paulo Cathedral
In episode 14, Jan Di and Ji Hoo decide to spend some time sightseeing around macau. One of the places they visit is the Ruins of Sao Paulo Cathedral. The cathedral was built in 1602 and destroyed in a fire in 1835. It’s amazing that the remains are still standing. It is recognized as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Seoul Grand Park Zoo
In episode 22, Jan Di is helping out at the clinic by taking care of a child. Jun Pyo calls her and she tells him to meet her at the zoo. There they have fun seeing all the animals.
The zoo is located in Seoul Grand Park, which contains hiking trails, a rose garden, Seoulland amusement park, and the Seoul Museum of Modern Art. Seoul Grand Park Zoo was the first zoo on the Korean Peninsula created in 1909 by the Japanese. The price of entry is 500 won per person, which translates into .50 for Americans. Here’s a map of the zoo right now.
Banpo Rainbow Bridge
In episode 23, Jan Di and Ji Hoo go on a walk along the Han River where they stop to see the Banpo Bridge light show. The bridge consists of 380 sprayers that create a beautiful show with water, lights, and music. The fountain operates everyday from April to October, 4-6 times a day for 20 minutes. Here’s the official Korean tourism site for more information.
Namsan Cable Car
The Namsan Cable car is the iconic first and the last date for our lead characters. At the time, I wasn’t aware of what it was until I watched Oh My Ghostess. I was like, “OHHHH!!!” I mean I’ve written about Namsan Park before when I wrote about Playful Kiss, but I didn’t know the cable car that leads to the tower was the iconic one.
I think I could go for a vacation in New Caledonia. Which location looks most interesting to you?
