In the Korean drama Boys Over Flowers, Jan Di recite a poem whose author is currently anonymous to me. It’s a poem that relates really well to the story line of the drama.
Poem
“A dandelion lives as a dandelion, while a horseweed lives as a horseweed. A plantain also lives as a plantain. On the harsh grounds, though, the plantain that lives on the side of the road can only grow angulated; in rich soil, it shows a different side and is dignified in its own way. This way and that way, it does not forget its shape and lives as a perfect plantain. That’s where I learned it. That I, too, must live as myself.”
Reflection
I think the poem is very straight forward saying that even though things grow as they should grow. But the place that they grow determines the way that they are able to grow. And no matter how or where the plant, or person, grows they do not (or should not) forget. And so finally, no matter what the beginning is the plant is still just a plant. And it just needs to be it’s self.
