I just finished reading To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The book mentioned so many different types of food that they eat that it was difficult for me to pinpoint which things I should cook. I decided on two of the items from the book: tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches that Lara Jean and Josh share at the diner and the snickerdoodle cookies that are Kitty’s favorite.
Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese
When I was a child, I’d always eat tomatoes. One day my mom made me tomato soup (from a can) and I thought surely I’d love it. To my surprise, I was disappointed. I couldn’t understand why I didn’t like it. I ate tomatoes all the time. Fast forward to my adult life, I found a recipe for homemade tomato soup that I thought I could give it another opportunity. I now eat it regularly.
The soup is labeled The Best Homemade Tomato Soup in Pinterest. I haven’t tried other recipes, so I can’t agree, but I can say that I like it a lot.
And for some reason or another, I can’t eat tomato soup without grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s like embedded into my mind. And so I made the sandwiches too. Grilled cheese is a very easy sandwich to make and it enhances the soup really well.
I didn’t follow a recipe for it because it’s simple to make: two pieces of bread with a slice (or two or three) of cheddar in middle, butter spread on both of the outer slices of bread, heated on a griddle (or a pan even) until the cheese melts. In the book, the sandwich is cut into little squares, so I did the same. I actually prefer to eat them this way now. It is easier to eat.
Snickerdoodle Cookies
Lara Jean absolutely loved baking. But baking for me is another story. I never seem to get it right. I’m often surprised at my ability to create Japanese pastries. The results of these cookies showed me no different. If you do a google search on Kitty’s snickerdoodles, you will find many recipes. I chose one and decided to make it.
When I finished the cookies, I was excited. I was feeling so proud of myself until I realized that I forgot to add the cinnamon sugar. They ended up being butter cookies. I was going to melt some butter and spread cinnamon sugar on the outside, but the kids ate them anyways.
