I’ve been watching the Korean sports drama Run on on Netflix. In episode 3 of the series, Mi Joo eats a delicious looking corndog. The corn dog that she was weating looks different from the American ones I’m used to seeing. After some research, I discovered the difference and I wanted to try it out myself. I decided that I will attempt to make the Korean style corn dog.
Korean Style Corndogs
- It’s a popular street food
- That is sprinkled with sugar after being deep-fried
- Variations include being filled with cheese or coated with potatoes or ramen noodles.
Korean Style Corn Dogs
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs
- 4 wooden skewers broken in half
- 1 Cup panko more if needed
- Oil for frying
- Granulated sugar for sprinkling
- Condiments of choice ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise
- [Batter]
- 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- 1. Take the skewers and stick them into the hot dogs very slowly. Once all the hot dogs have the skewers, place them into the fridge so that they remain cold.
- 2. In bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder until well blended.
- 3. In a separate bowl, mix together milk and egg. Make a well in the dry ingredients and mix everything together. When everything is well-combined, Pour batter into a tall and thin glass and place in fridge until ready for use.
- 4. Heat oil to 350°F in a pan
- 5. Remove hot dogs and batter from fridge. Dip the hot dogs into the batter until it coats. Coat the battered hot dog with panko and fry in the oil for 5 minutes, or until golden.
- 6. Lay on a baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar.
I started it off following a recipe from a blog, but when the corn dog started to not go well. I ended up following this video on Youtube.
AfterThoughts
- It is so delicious. It is more delicious than the store-bought ones that I hardly ever buy (because I don’t like them). The corn dogs disappeared quickly and that is how I know that they were well-made. My kids enjoyed them so much that I had to hide one for for husband because he wasn’t home yet.
- Remember that the dough and the hit digs must remained cold at all times. I figured out what happens when you don’t. You get deformed corn dogs…but it really didn’t matter to be because they were delicious.
